Karl Lagerfeld KChain Leather and Suede Shoulder Bag

Bag: Karl Lagerfeld K/Chain Leather and Suede Shoulder Bag

Why It’s the Bag of the Week: So far, Karl Lagerfeld’s eponymous line has tended toward the irreverent and sporty, but this bag packs a serious style punch at a very attractive price point. The multi-textured grey construction and statement chain make it a perfect fall piece.

Are You a Goyard Person?

Other Brands

PurseBlog Asks Goyard

Last week, Chavie Lieber of Racked interviewed me for an in-depth look at the cult of Goyard. It’s a brand unlike any other we cover; even Hermès, in all of its tradition and conservatism, still debuts seasonal collections at Paris Fashion Week, sells a portion of its product line on its website and has boutiques in all the world’s major luxury markets. Goyard, on the other hand, does none of that, but it retains an ardent following and seems to attract new, younger customers, despite no advertising, an extremely limited retail presence and as little interaction with the media as you could imagine. What gives?

When Lieber asked me why I thought Goyard continued to attract customers despite its general rejection of all commonly used methods of doing exactly that, I balked. Having never found any of Goyard’s bags particularly compelling, it’s not a question I could answer from personal experience with my own shopping urges, and it’s not one I’ve ever seen Goyard’s loyal horde of customers discuss in any detail. If you’re a loyal Goyard fan, we want to hear from you.

What first attracted you to Goyard’s products, and how did you learn about the brand? Goyard’s website proudly proclaims that it doesn’t make seasonal products, so how does the brand hold your interest? Does celebrity affection for the brand, particularly the lightweight St. Louis totes, help or hinder your love for Goyard? Do you wish that the brand provided more variety, or is the brand’s ultra-traditional approach and distaste for the spotlight part of the magic?

Check Out Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring 2015 Bags, Straight From the Runway

Rebecca-Minkoff-SS15-1

It’s truly been a joy to watch my friend Rebecca Minkoff grow over the years. From starting a line with only a few bag designs (like the famed Morning After) to expanding into a well-known brand whose wares include bags, clothing, nike shoes and jewelry, Rebecca Minkoff has changed before our eyes. Over the years, Minkoff’s runway show has always been incredibly fun, with live music and nods to Minkoff’s tech-savvy attendees and fans.

This year was no different; with an intimate-feeling venue, perfect mood lighting and the Brooklyn-based band Little Daylight performing, a breezy collection made its way down the runway. Rebecca Minkoff’s clothing has gotten stronger every season, and Spring 2015 contained soft neutrals, perfectly muted pastels and tassel-embellished bags.

And let’s talk about the bags, shall we? Tons of tassels and sprinkles of fringe adorned the vast majority of the season’s bags. It sounds like it could be a bit much, but it worked well, making it my favorite Rebecca Minkoff bag collection in several seasons. There was an elevated feel to the bags, with oversized handheld pouches and round shoulder bags as the standouds. Studs were also a focal point, but I found the manner in which they were applied to fit Rebecca Minkoff’s downtown-romantic vibe to a T. While Rebecca will always be a handbag girl to me, it’s clear her penchant for all things fashion has grown along with her business.

Alexa Chung Goes Shopping with a Boxy Little Mark Cross Bag

Other Brands

Alexa Chung Mark Cross Small Grace Box Bag

Full-time fashion maven Alexa Chung was recently spotted leaving Alice + Olivia in Soho, NYC, carrying a Mark Cross Small Grace Box Bag. It looks boxy and inconspicuous enough, but the interior unfolds like a miniature streamer trunk!

As you might suspect, Alexa has her own, pretty epic edition of “The Many Bags of…”, which you can see here. In other news, all those totally destroyed cut-off shorts I expected to see in July are suddenly showing up in NYC on the first week of September. Completely destroyed denim is suddenly very in, as of this week.
